PROCLAMATION - Mayor Patrick Rosenello, City of North Wildwood September 3, 2016
Michael Guadagno and Joseph Bilbee Day
Mayor Patrick Rosenello hereby issues this Proclamation in recognition of Michael Victor Guadagno and Joseph G. Bilbee. Together for over 35 years Mike and Joe, served the residents and visitors of Moores Inlet in North Wildwood, Historic Anglesea, with legendary entertainment, refreshment and devotion to fans, visitors, family and friends.
WHEREAS, in the year 1912 a family of South Philadelphia opened a tavern in North Wildwood next to the ocean at the corner of Spruce Street and Old New Jersey Avenue. Due to its location, adjacent to the channel of water that led to the Atlantic Ocean, the business was named after the surname of its founders and was called "Moores Inlet".
WHEREAS, approximately 1970 Mike Guadagno purchased the landmark Moores Inlet and operated the highly successful business in North Wildwood for over 35 years with his subsequent partner, Joe Bilbee. The two established Moores Inlet not as only a popular destination, but created a following of fans, friends, and a frame of mind for generations.
WHEREAS, we recognize Mike and Joe’s contributions and benevolence was far reaching in enhancing the quality of life in North Wildwood and surrounding communities. Mike was one of the original organizers of Capital Bank of New Jersey and gave a valiant attempt to bring minor league baseball to North Wildwood. Joe organized music events, trips and coached youth football for many years. Their great enthusiasm for community, family and generosity was boundless in local charities & organizations.
WHEREAS, Mike and Joe faced the evolution of progress for beach front property demands and closed the doors on Moores Inlet in 2005 when the property was purchased by Beazer Builders. The property was transformed into a beautifully constructed four story, sixty unit, luxury condominium now known as The Pointe @ Moore’s Inlet which is erected directly on the spot where Moores Inlet operated from 1912-2005. Both Mike and Joe owned condominiums at The Pointe @ Moore’s Inlet until their passing.
WHEREAS, in addition to their business and community service, we give honor and recognize their military service to the citizens of United States of America. Michael Victor Guadagno served as a Military Police Officer two years in the U. S. Army 534th Communication Engineer Detachment in Fort Clayton, Panama Canal Zone and Joseph G. Bilbee served seven years in the U. S. Marine Corps after being trained at the Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Patrick Rosenello, do hereby proclaim on this THIRD day of September, in the year of our Lord, Twenty Thousand and Sixteen, a day to celebrate, give honor and tribute to the spirit of two outstanding gentlemen for their dedication to their family, friends, God and Country, and proudly endorse the presentation of this plaque titled “Smile Because It Happened”. North Wildwood recognizes posthumously Michael Victor Guadagno (d. July 1, 2010) and Joseph G. Bilbee (d. June 9, 2015) for their contributions and friendship to the city of North Wildwood and the United States.
